Cedar Mill Childcare

Childcare in the tranquil hills of Northwest Portland

We love our neighborhood and are proud to call Cedar Mill home!

Tucked between downtown Portland and Beaverton, our northwest location lies within the curving, tree-lined streets of Cedar Mill. This charming child care center is easily accessible from NW Cornell Road on the way to downtown and just a couple blocks from eight-acre George Foege Park, with its winding walkways, picnic tables, and playground for imaginative outdoor fun.

As one small school in a global community, we encourage the children to experience and interact with the world—to wave at our neighbors and get to know the families in the area. This sense of place helps foster a feeling that school is a home away from home. And it deepens their instinct to be curious about people and celebrate what makes each of us unique.

Different environments for distinct stages

Magnolia Room

6-weeks to 1-year-old

The world is so new and amazing to baby. In the first year of life, infants begin to understand who they are and how they relate to the world—whether objects truly disappear when they close their eyes and who those toes belong to. They learn how to roll over, sit up, and communicate. They take their first steps toward becoming themselves.

Your toddler is on the move and ready to pick up the pace. They need space to explore and toys and books that spark their imaginations. They’re eager to play and laugh and want to try new things. They’re also developing self-control and can sit at a table and follow directions. They like to do things “by myself” such as putting on coats and shoes and are exceptionally motivated to be helpers.

Oak Room

1 to 2 years old

Cedar Room

2 to 3 years old

Your child is gaining confidence and their curiosity is growing. They’re able to dig deep into new concepts and retain an incredible number of new facts. Their emotional world is also expanding. At this age, they’re good at cooperation and building community. Their sense of empathy is stronger than ever and they’re able to communicate complex emotions as they learn how to play together and develop friendships.

Willow Room

3 to 5 years old

Your capable preschooler is a creative force now. Their play is more imaginative than ever and they now have the skills to make elaborate and surprising art projects. They’re also able to make connections—between people and ideas—that they weren’t able to see last year. (And that maybe you hadn’t seen them before either!) Your preschooler is fully becoming their own unique self and will soon be ready for the independence and delight of kindergarten.

Our daughter loves it here. Her eyes light up when she sees any of the caregivers, and especially Miss Raghad! If her mood at dropoff and pickup is any indication, then we picked the right place.

Wow and Flutterville rests on traditional lands and villages of the Cowlitz, Clackamas, and the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia and Willamette rivers. We recognize that this land was taken from tribes through United States federal policies such as the Land Donation Act and numerous broken treaties. We recognize that the Indigenous Peoples of Oregon have faced disease, forced relocation, forced cultural assimilation in the form of boarding schools and loss of language, discrimination, and tribal termination.

As a childcare community, Wow and Flutterville commits to do our part to make it right and to ground our work in the awareness of place, presence, perspective, power, political nationhood, and partnerships.
